Flick does: Hip Hop Yoga – Yoga 213 Melbourne review, my experience of hip hop yoga!

Image via Yoga 213

So what is hip hop yoga? Do you groove your way through a sun salutation? Imagine doing your vinyasa to some fresh hip hop beats. Sound like your kind of thing? Then Hip Hop Yoga is for you! I like to spice up my practice every now and again and when I had a trip to Melbourne coming up I took it as the perfect opportunity to try something new and do some hip hop yoga. So what was it actually like in reality? I headed to Yoga 213 to find out.

 Booking

A google search of ‘hip hop yoga’ will lead you to the only studio around, Yoga 213 (Melbourne and Sydney). They have  a slick looking easy to navigate website with everything you need to know, class styles, prices, timetables – it’s all there. I booked for my class before my trip and paid online via Mind Body (a booking software common to many yoga studios) super easy as I already had the app for my regular studio, bonus!
There were a few choices of classes, Chill, Yin or Hip Hop, obviously I went straight in and clicked on hip hop and this was the description:
“Make your move. Find your groove…. Loud beats help you move…..Tune in while you tune out. Bend. Stretch. Harness your practice. Let go.”
Sounds fab. Sign me up.

A Special Announcement...

Hi everyone, I know it has been a long time since my last post and there are reasons for this:
  1. I have been on holidays from uni (which technically means I have more time for blogging but really means I am enjoying doing didley squat!)
  2. I have been working (not really an excuse).
So.... apart from those crappy reasons, I am excited to say the real reason is that I have been busy CREATING AN ENTIRE NEW LOOK & DIRECTION FOR FLICK OF APPROVAL!!!!

It has happened.... I am making the move from blogger to wordpress! This actually involves a fair whack of work and takes some time, in fact my changeover experience may just be the makings of a great post, so I apologise for my absence. In the mean time and as uni goes back in a few weeks I am sure the posts will be coming thick and fast from all of my study procrastination! I have a whole list of ideas brewing and trying to split my time between creating content and doing all the little bits of tweaking on the new site.

The good news:

  • This blogger site won't be disappearing anytime soon, I will most likely be redirecting post links but not quite up to that stage yet.
  • The Flick of Approval will be better then ever, I will be a lot more active and posting on a more regular basis.
  • The new blog looks amaze!! Just saying. Personal opinion :)
and the best part is:
IT IS LIVE NOW! It is not quite perfect yet so please excuse any annoying bits while I am busy fixing it. I am hoping to have it ready for launch to celebrate 100K page views, but I thought I would still allow you guys to be able to view it in the mean time, so head on over and check it out here. FYI, there is no new content compared to this blog ...yet and remember it is not quite at its maximum amazeballs level of completion. Let me know what you think of the new look in the comments or on twitter @flickofapproval, I would love to hear from you! Yes, I finally changed my twitter to flickofapproval from flick_kitty, makes sense, no? This is not the flick_kitty of approval after all.

Thanks for reading, see you soon all shiny and new!

Thursday Thought - Happiness Takes Effort

I read this article the other day that someone shared on Facebook from cracked.com titled "6 Harsh Truths That Will Make You a Better Person" by David Wong. Curiosity piqued, I checked it out (warning, it contains lots of swearing). Agree with the content or not, it is definitely an interesting read and a no frills approach to self improvement. Out of the whole article there was one quote that really stood out to me:

50,000 page views! My top 5 landscape photos - No. 4

Hello everyone! Ok so after a very long break over the holiday and new year period I am back! Here is my next favourite ‘view’

No. 4 – Bay of Fires – Tasmania, Australia

The obligatory sunset pic

This is just one of the countless North East coast of Tasmania and they make the most amazing places to visit in the Summer. This picture was the view from my tent taken last Easter and is a place right at the end of the Bay of Fires area called ‘The Gardens’ .

50,000 page views! My top 5 landscape photos - No. 5

Wow! My blog has now had over 50,000 page views! Not what I anticipated when I first started but I would like to thank everyone for taking the time to read my blog and hope you have gotten something out of it :)

To celebrate 50,000 views I am sharing my top 5 views of my favourite landscapes with you in pictures over the next few days, with a little bit about why I chose it. I will post 1 "view" for every 10,000 page views (love a good play on words). These pictures are all my personal photos of places I have been (unless otherwise stated) and therefore are pretty limited to my favourite holiday snaps within Australia and parts of the United States.

In no necessary order:

No. 5 – Moraine Lake – Alberta, Canada

Thursday Thought - Show Up to Life

If you read my blog often, you will notice I like consuming wellness content! I am a giant sponge and want to soak up all info I can get my hands on because I like learning and it keeps me motivated. After attending two wellness related workshops this year (review here and another one soon) I started writing some tips if you are attending any sort of wellness session. As I wrote I thought, “hang on”, these things should not only be applied to workshops but life in general!

The lovely background image is named escape of the dandelions by Ines Perkovic

Do you show up to your own life? You may show up for your loved ones, work, that dentist appointment you have been putting off, but what about your life. It can be hard not to go through the motions while your mind drifts off elsewhere or take the path you should follow over the one that you want. This is a pretty big topic and there is lots of online content going way deeper into this.

How to get FIT for FREE - Ways to work out without spending a cent - Part 1

So you want to get fit but you either:

a) can't afford a gym membership;
b) don't like gyms; or
c) can't be bothered going to a gym.

FIRSTLY - you need to be self motivated for these methods to work (so option C does not really help you here), there won't be a personal trainer or class instructor there pushing you, that part is up to YOU! The fact that you are reading this at least says you have some form of motivation inside you.

"People often say that motivation doesn't last. Well neither does bathing. That's why we recommend it daily." -  Zig Ziglar

Yep, it's on you to get out there! Need some help? Enlist a friend to go with you, meeting up for a walk is a great way to catch up one on one with your pals without distractions, and is a lot cheaper and healthier then shopping or having dinners and drinks.

We all love free stuff so here are some ideas on things you can do to get moving, without joining up to a gym and parting with those hard earned $$$$.

Wise Words

I stumbled across this list online tonight and just had to share it with you all immediately! The existing images were pretty boring so I created this graphic using an old instagram photo and added it to Pintrest for your pinning pleasure.

They sound quite easy don't they? Take a moment to check in with yourself and think about how many of these things you actually practice in your everyday life. How often do you allow others to control you, hold onto something, give up or not be your authentic self? Share your thoughts in the comments below or jump on twitter.

A simple truth is always the best truth. Nice one Ghandi.
